Tips for covering Arched Windows
Arched
windows and doors provide a classic and elegant appearance to the
buildings. Though these windows are
oddly shaped, it is not difficult to find suitable window treatments for them. However, choosing a proper window treatment
would depend on your interior designing and specific needs. Here are some suggestions for you to choose
from.
Covering a
portion
Since most of
the arched windows are tall, it is not normally required to cover them fully to
provide privacy inside the room. So you
can think of covering them partially.
The ideal way would be to fix a horizontal rod where the arch begins so
that the curtain hangs in the perpendicular walls on the sides. This would leave the arched portion open to
bring in light and air. You also have
the option to hang different types of curtains or drapes on this rod, as per
your taste. However, sheer curtain
panels are a good option for this type of window treatment.
Using
Flexible Curtain Rods
Flexible type
of curtain rods make out of polycarbonate plastic is available in the
market. These types of rods can be
curved to fit in different type of windows including arched, round and oval
windows. The rods can be cut or joined
together to cover different sizes of windows.
You can use mounting clips to install these rods. You can hang light weight or sheer fabric
curtains on these rods. The advantage is
that you can cover entire window in this method.
Shutters and
Shades
Shutters can
be used on arched windows either partially or fully. You can use shutters on the lower portion of
the arched window leaving the arch open.
Wooden shutters can be also fixed permanently on the arched portion to
allow light and air partially. It is also possible to cover entire arched
window using shades. Different types of motorized window shades are available which can partially allow light to come in through the
windows and block UV rays and heat.
Drapes
Long drapes
can be used to cover the entire arched window.
In this you can mount rods inside the wall at the upper portion of the
window. When the drapes are drawn they
hide the entire window from inside while it looks elegant from outside. You can find such window treatments in
traditional architecture.
There are
different ways to cover arched windows. You can select one according to your interior
designing.
