Using Modern Window treatments to Keep Children Safe

If you have small children in your home or expect children to visit you, then it is important to keep them safe from accidents associated with window treatments.  There have been several instances of children getting harmed by getting tangled up in traditional window dressings happening all over the country.  Several instances of death of small children were also reported due to this. 

As per the data collected by Parents for Window Blind Safety, more than 500 children across US have died due to incidents connected with cords and strings of window blinds.  They assessed that the window treatments related to 80% of these fatalities were of older type and did not confirm to the present safety standards. The agencies such as Window Covering Safety Council have recommended that outdated window treatments should be retrofitted to make them more safe to children.  They also suggest upgrading existing blinds to safer motorized blinds.

Traditional window dressings often have dangling cords to open and close them.  Small children and toddlers are often attracted to these cords and often get tangled in them.  There is also a risk of the children getting these cords around their neck and subsequently getting asphyxiated. Therefore it is important to keep these risks in mind while planning your window treatments.

If you have children growing in your home, you may think of upgrading your window treatments to safer modern options. People who furnish their new apartments or revote their existing houses are installing modern blinds and other window options, which are motorized and do not use cords to operate.  In addition to being child safe, these modern motorized shades have several other advantages also.
